There are millions of tips out there on how to fly with kids, what to bring on camping vacations, which suitcase to buy, where to go and what to see in just about every corner on Earth. What I want to share today is something a little different – something that we discovered last summer during a family hike in the Appalachians.

I have been working on my family history since I was 12 year old. More than 40 years later, I am just as enthusiastic about it as I was at 12 listening to my great grandmother's stories. Several times over the years, family members have suggested I share not only our family history, but the tips, pitfalls, and frustrations of this journey through my past.
